Description
The M1XSLZW serves as a dedicated Elk-M1 serial expander designed to integrate M1 Control systems with Z-Wave enabled devices using a Leviton VRC0P+3 Z-Wave Serial Interface. Z-Wave is a widely adopted wireless, low-power mesh network technology employed in the automation of devices like lights, thermostats, and electronic locks. This technology facilitates remote device control, whether locally or globally, offering advantages such as energy efficiency, convenience, and enhanced comfort. The VRC0P+3 functions as a Z-Wave secondary controller and must be a permanent network member to maintain connectivity with all Z-Wave devices. It communicates through RS232 to the M1XSLZW, which converts the protocol for M1 control, thus enabling bidirectional command transmission on the Z-Wave network. The M1XSLZW operates as a serial expander (RS485 to RS232) and uses the same TYPE 5 databus ID as M1XSP serial expanders. A total of seven TYPE 5 serial expanders can be connected to an M1 system. A significant advantage of integrating the M1XSLZW with the VRC0P+3 is accessing advanced Z-Wave devices, including electronic deadbolts and locksets from brands like Kwikset, Yale, and Schlage. These locks require specific Security Encrypted (SE) protocols and the “beaming” process, both supported by the M1XSLZW and VRC0P+3. Generally, any Z-Wave device compatible with the Leviton VRC0P+3 is likely to be compatible with M1; however, some devices might exhibit limited functionality due to design or feature variations.
