Description
LONGSPAN® offers a compelling alternative to fiber optics, enabling both data and power transmission over a single cable across extended distances. LONGSPAN Base 8™ incorporates 8 LONGSPAN® connections with a gigabit Ethernet switch, utilizing just one network switch port for every eight channels, optimizing cost efficiency.
Exceptional Range and Bandwidth
IP cameras often require burst network bandwidth significantly higher than their average data rates during high-action or low-light scenarios. LONGSPAN® solutions are engineered to connect IP cameras over distances up to 820 meters with Cat6 cabling, supporting the 200Mbps aggregate bandwidth necessary for full-duplex 100Base-TX Ethernet, ensuring optimal image quality even at maximum cable lengths.
Multi-Channel Integration
The LONGSPAN Base 8 model delivers eight extensive-range LONGSPAN links paired with a gigabit Ethernet switch for scalable, high-density multi-channel deployments. Each rack-mountable unit uses a single network switch port for eight LONGSPAN channels, enhancing cost-efficiency. An SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) socket is available for optional fiber uplink, ensuring adaptability. Up to four Base 8 units can be assembled within 1U, using an optional rear-mounted 1U power supply, achieving a noteworthy channel density of 32 per U. Optional accessories include a 1U faceplate with four Base slots and a rack mounting tray.
High-Power PoE
LONGSPAN Base 8 provides four 30W PoE channels (802.3at) and four 70W PoE channels (802.3bt), offering substantial flexibility for IP camera system design and power management. The 30W channels maintain the standard LONGSPAN PoE range, while the 70W channels extend the PoE range for common PoE classes as outlined in the Base 8 High Power Range. For leveraging PoE levels above 25W, LONGSPAN Max devices are required at the camera endpoint. LONGSPAN Base 8 features an automatic cooling fan for high power loads. Reference the PoE tables for power and distance details.
Non-PoE Application
In network-only non-PoE scenarios, any LONGSPAN Base 8 link can connect to the “Lite” version of LONGSPAN, tailored for extended-distance data transmission exclusively.
Extended Range
For further than standard distances, LONGSPAN links automatically adjust to 10Base-T operation, enabling ranges up to 1,050 meters (3,450 feet) while still supplying adequate PoE (via Cat6) to power a 13W IP camera.
Installer-Friendly Design
All LONGSPAN devices are self-configuring to deliver peak performance upon connection, eliminating the need for user setup, DIP switch settings, or system pairings.
