Description
Power over Ethernet (PoE) is an innovative technology that enables both power and data transmission over Ethernet cabling, with Cat5 being the most widely used type. Ethernet represents the network infrastructure of structured data cabling that connects all local area network (LAN) equipment, such as computers.
Integrating PoE with access control systems, like those offered by Paxton, makes the installation process significantly faster, simpler, and more cost-efficient. This is achieved by eliminating the need for separate power supplies, which reduces additional cabling needs and saves installation time. PoE connectors seamlessly integrate into existing LAN infrastructure using a standard RJ45 plug, provided there is power from a PoE switch or injector. These systems are easily detected and configured through the control software, just like any other access control unit in the network.
PoE-enabled control units are engineered to function reliably even during a communications breakdown, ensuring that they continue to grant or restrict access as needed. Once the connection is restored, all access activity is promptly reported back to the central computer system.
