Description
The pivCLASS® solutions portfolio offers a comprehensive range of card and biometric access control readers. These readers are designed to integrate with the pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM) to comply with assurance level standards outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-116, as well as the federal ICAM E-PACS guidelines. The pivCLASS readers can operate in “Wiegand” mode or PAM mode. In Wiegand mode, the readers function without a PAM, offering a transitional deployment strategy toward FIPS 201 compliance, although it lacks strong door-side authentication. Transitioning from Wiegand mode to PAM mode is possible via field reconfiguration of the reader firmware. A PAM can connect with up to two pivCLASS readers using four-wire RS-485 connections, which typically allows facilities to utilize much of their existing wiring infrastructure.
