HID Global’s pivCLASS Government Solutions allow facilities to enhance their existing physical access control systems (PACS) to achieve FIPS 201/FICAM compliance without replacing the current system infrastructure. The RK40 and RPK40 devices are designed to support various applications, ultimately achieving full FICAM compliance.
In the transitional model, these readers can operate independently to read both legacy iCLASS and HID prox cards as well as FIPS 201 cards, sending card identifiers directly to the access control panel. The keypad facilitates user entry of a PIN directly into the PACS panel. When combined with pivCLASS Registration Engine and Certification Manager software, this setup offers a cost-effective solution for gradually transitioning to full FICAM compliance, and for securing areas where compliance is not mandated.
In terms of FICAM compliance, adding the pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM) ensures strong single-factor authentication. This setup supports authentication methods like CHUID + VIS and CAK as outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-116.
For two-factor authentication, the addition of a HID pivCLASS contact reader module enables CHUID + VIS, CAK, and PKI + PIN authentication modes via both contactless and contact interfaces. The PIN is securely matched on the card itself.
For three-factor authentication, incorporating the HID pivCLASS contact plus biometric reader module adds biometric verification, supporting CHUID + VIS and CAK authentication via both interfaces. The PKI + PIN with on-card matching and PKI + PIN + BIO modes utilize the contact interface for heightened security.
