Description
**4900 Series Heavy Duty Deadlatch: Enhanced Traffic Control and Installation Efficiency**
**Functionality:**
The 4900 Series Heavy Duty Deadlatches are engineered for superior traffic management and straightforward installation. With a key-controlled bolt hold-back feature, it enables dual-direction traffic flow, making it ideal for scenarios demanding unimpeded entry at specific intervals while restricting access to exit-only at others. This feature ensures that a “locked” entrance can be utilized as an exit by individuals inside the premises. It necessitates a minimum door thickness of 1-3/4″ [44.5 mm]. Compatible, without stile modification, with any MS1850S deadbolt of matching backset and faceplate design, it can also be adapted to fit existing 4510 and phased-out 4700 Deadlatch configurations.
**Operational Details:**
The mechanism is activated by turning a key or using a handle or paddle to retract the spring-loaded latchbolt. To maintain the bolt in a retracted position, one can manually push it in and secure it with a reverse key turn. The lock accommodates any standard 1″ [25.4 mm] length, 1-5/32″ [29.4 mm] diameter mortise cylinder with an MSĀ® cam, like the 4036 Mortise Cylinder or the 4066 Thumbturn, which are available separately. It allows cylinder installation on one or both sides.
**Key Features:**
– **Cylinder Backset:** Offered in 31/32″ [24.6 mm], 1-1/8″ [28.6mm], or 1-1/2″ [38.1 mm].
– **Case:** Manufactured from steel with corrosion-resistant plating, measuring 7/8″ x 5-13/16″ x depth [22.2mm x 147.6 mm x depth], with depth variation based on backset. Screw-fastened tube spacer brackets provide easy and neat removal during tab mounting.
– **Bolt Holdback:** Maintains the bolt in a fully retracted state through a reverse key turn, allowing the door to function as a free swinger.
– **Latchbolt:** Constructed from solid brass with straightforward reversibility without the need for special tools, measuring 5/8″ x 1″ x 5/8″ [15.9 mm x 25.4 mm x 15.9 mm] throw.
– **Auxiliary Linchpin:** Made from stainless steel, this feature deadlocks the latch bolt, ensuring protection against “loiding” or case-knife entry.
– **Faceplate:** Measures 1″ x 6-7/8″ [25.4 mm x 174.6 mm] and comes with flat and radius options. Flat faceplates can be adjusted in the field for right or left beveled edge doors.
– **Strike:** Standard strike provided is the 4902 for flat jambs where the door closes flush or nearly flush. The 4901 is specified for retrofit applications, with additional options including radius strikes for the opposite stile in paired doors and long lip strikes for center-hung doors.
– **Packaging:** Each unit is boxed with a strike plate, flat and radius faceplates, and mounting screws, whereas the cylinder, paddle, and handle are sold separately.
– **Weight:** Shipping weight is 1-1/4 lbs [0.57 kg].
**Customization Options:**
Customers must specify backset, faceplate shape, strike, handling, and finish at the time of order. The 4920AN Heavy Duty Deadlatch is available for wood and hollow metal door applications. Additionally, the product can be acquired without a faceplate or strike plate, under selection 4913, and is offered in a variety of finishes including 313 Dark Bronze Anodized, 335 Black Anodized, and 628 Clear Anodized.
