Description
4900 Series Heavy Duty Deadlatch: Optimized Traffic Control and Simplified Installation
Functionality
The 4900 Series Heavy Duty Deadlatches are designed to provide maximum flexibility in traffic management, coupled with straightforward installation. Featuring a key-operated bolt hold-back mechanism, these deadlatches accommodate bi-directional traffic flow. This functionality is ideal for scenarios requiring free entry at specific times and controlled exit at others, allowing “locked” entry points to function as exits for interior users. Compatible with a minimum door thickness of 1-3/4″ [44.5 mm], these deadlatches can be easily interchanged with any MS1850S deadbolt of equivalent backset and faceplate configuration and can be retrofitted to replacing 4510 and phased-out 4700 Deadlatch setups.
Operation
The deadlatch employs a spring-loaded latchbolt retraction, activated via key, handle, or paddle. To maintain the bolt in a retracted state, users can push it in and secure it with a reverse key turn. This lock is compatible with any standard 1″ [25.4 mm] length, 1-5/32″ [29.4 mm] diameter mortise cylinder, equipped with an MSĀ® cam, such as the 4036 Mortise Cylinder, or a thumbturn like the 4066 Thumbturn, available for separate purchase. Cylinders can be installed on either or both lock sides.
Key Features:
Cylinder Backset: Available in 31/32″ [24.6 mm], 1-1/8″ [28.6 mm], or 1-1/2″ [38.1 mm].
Case: Constructed from corrosion-resistant plated steel, with dimensions of 7/8″ x 5-13/16″ x depth [22.2 mm x 147.6 mm x depth], varying by backset. Includes screw-fastened tube spacer brackets for streamlined removal during tab mounting.
Bolt Holdback: Allows the door to swing freely when the bolt is held fully retracted and secured via reverse key turn.
Latchbolt: Made of solid brass, the latchbolt is easily reversible without the need for specialized tools, with dimensions of 5/8″ x 1″ x 5/8″ [15.9 mm x 25.4 mm x 15.9 mm] for the throw.
Auxiliary Linchpin: Crafted from stainless steel, it effectively deadlocks the latchbolt to thwart any “loiding” or case-knife intrusions.
Faceplate: Measures 1″ x 6-7/8″ [25.4 mm x 174.6 mm], and includes both flat and radius faceplates. Flat faceplates are adjustable for doors with right or left beveled edges.
Strike: Includes the standard 4902 strike for flat jambs where doors close flush. For retrofit installations, the 4901 strike is suggested. Additional options include a radius strike for opposite stile in paired doors and long lip strikes suited for center-hung doors.
Standard Package: Each deadlatch comes individually boxed with a strike plate, both flat and radius faceplates, and all necessary mounting screws. Cylinders, paddles, and handles can be purchased separately.
