Overview – The Net2 is a networked access control solution, offering centralized management, event monitoring, and adaptable access control for users. Each control unit operates on a network while also functioning autonomously, making independent decisions and recording events.
The Net2 plus control unit interfaces with the central administration system via an RJ45 connection to a standard TCP/IP Ethernet network, allowing enhanced installation flexibility within LAN/WAN environments. It also features an RS485 connection for linking additional Net2 plus or Net2 classic units using a dedicated CAT5 cable.
A single Net2 plus control unit serves as the network interface to the LAN and supports a wired RS485 daisy chain of multiple units, eliminating the need for a separate TCP/IP to RS485 converter. Available with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, Net2 plus units can easily connect to existing LAN infrastructure using an RJ45 plug, assuming compatibility with a PoE switch or injector.
Control units are available as a bare PCB, in a plastic housing, or within a 2A boxed metal/plastic enclosure featuring a monitored backup power supply. The latest Net2 plus model is equipped with a PoE+ power supply in a metal/plastic cabinet, removing the need for an additional mains backup supply.
Installation – The Net2 plus control unit comes with a clear label indicating color-coded connections for components such as readers and power supplies. It includes a voltage-free relay capable of switching locks or electrical devices, with connections available for exit buttons, door contacts, tamper switches, and alarm systems.
Communication with the PC is facilitated via the LAN’s standard TCP/IP protocol, and the Net2 plus control unit requires a fixed/static IP address. Configuration is managed through the Net2 Configuration Utility. Diagnostic LEDs near critical terminals help ensure a seamless installation process, and built-in end-of-line resistors eliminate the need for external ones.
Operation – Updates made on the PC are instantly relayed to and stored in the control unit. When a user presents a token, the control unit validates their identity and grants or denies access accordingly.
