Description
pivCLASS READERS FOR “CONTROLLED” AREAS DELIVER ENHANCED SECURITY, INTEROPERABILITY, AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
- Part of a comprehensive security solution from a single, reliable provider – Ensures compliance with FIPS 201 standards according to NIST SP 800-116 guidelines and TWIC Reader specifications
- Field-upgradable – Adaptable in the field for elevated assurance levels by adding a contact or contact plus biometric sidecar
- Versatile reader – Capable of reading PIV, PIV-I, CAC, CIV, TWIC, FRAC, iCLASS®, and HID Prox® cards, facilitating a seamless transition from outdated technology to new PKI-enabled smart cards
- Contactless reader with keypad for less secure areas – Implements a “PIN to PACS” strategy using both legacy and FIPS 201 cards
HID Global’s pivCLASS Government Solutions allow for upgrading existing physical access control systems (PACS) to meet FIPS 201/FICAM compliance, eliminating the need for system overhauls. The RK40 and RPK40 are designed to support varied use cases, paving the way for full FICAM compliance.
The transitional reader functions either standalone or integrated, supporting legacy iCLASS and HID Prox cards as well as FIPS 201 compliant cards, directly transmitting card identifiers to the access control panel. Users can transmit PINs to the PACS panel via the keypad. Combined with the pivCLASS Registration Engine and Certification Manager software, this setup ensures a hassle-free transition to full FICAM compliance and serves as a cost-effective solution for securing “Uncontrolled” areas where full FICAM compliance is optional.
Achieving FICAM compliance involves incorporating the pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM) for single-factor strong authentication.
This setup includes support for CHUID + VIS and card authentication key (CAK) modes as outlined in NIST Special Publication 800-116.
Two-factor strong authentication is achievable through the addition of the HID pivCLASS contact reader sidecar, which offers a contact card slot and an LCD for message display to cardholders. It supports CHUID + VIS and CAK modes over both contactless and contact interfaces and employs a PKI + PIN mode on the contact interface with on-card PIN matching.
Three-factor strong authentication is realized by incorporating the HID pivCLASS contact plus biometric reader sidecar, featuring a contact card slot and a biometric sensor. This setup supports CHUID + VIS and CAK across both interfaces, with PKI + PIN and PKI + PIN + BIO modes utilizing the contact interface.
