Description
**To comply with local building codes and installation requirements,** a range of versatile base options for Select Series detectors is available in the fire safety industry. These include **standard 4″ and 6″ bases** as well as specialized bases such as relay, isolator, sounder, and low-frequency sounder options.
The standard 4″ and 6″ bases feature a plug-in design suitable for intelligent systems, equipped with screw terminals for power (+ and -) and connections to remote annunciators. Communication is facilitated over the power lines. The 4″ base is designed for compact spaces, whereas the 6″ base is adaptable to various junction box sizes to offer broader compatibility.
Specialty bases in the Select Series are tailored to meet specific application requirements. They utilize a separate mounting plate compatible with different junction box sizes, which helps eliminate unattractive surface-mount boxes and allows pre-wiring of connections to enhance installation efficiency.
**Relay bases** feature a single Form C contact relay for controlling auxiliary operations, such as door closure and elevator recall. These relays operate in two modes: short delay (60 ms to 100 ms) and long delay (6 sec to 10 sec), with a shunt on the base PC board used for setting delay timings.
**Isolator bases** are critical for maintaining the integrity of the Signaling Line Circuit (SLC) loop during faults like short circuits. They isolate the faulty section of the loop and automatically restore normal operation once the fault is cleared.
The Select Series sounder and low-frequency sounder bases are engineered for both new and retrofitted dwelling applications, maximizing installation, configuration, and operational flexibility to meet UL 268 and UL 464 standards. Low-frequency sounder bases fulfill NFPA 72 requirements for sleeping areas, producing a fundamental frequency of 520 Hz +/- 10%. This frequency range is optimum for waking individuals, including those with mild to severe hearing impairment.
The B200SR sounder and LF sounder bases maintain compatibility with legacy B501BH-Series installations. They offer a choice of two tones—ANSI Temporal 3 or Continuous—adjustable via a jumper. The B200S sounder and LF sounder bases share the detector’s address but are recognized by the Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) as a unique device type, allowing individual or group activation. FACPs can issue customizable tone patterns, including volume settings (75 or 85 dBA) and tone types (ANSI Temporal 3, ANSI Temporal 4, or March Time). Moreover, the B200S series sounder bases are compatible with synchronization protocols, integrating seamlessly with other audible/visible appliances for comprehensive evacuation signals when connected to a suitable power supply or FACP output.
