Description
The Model DXS-54 Supervised Passive Infrared Motion Detector Transmitter is a battery-operated motion detection system that leverages passive infrared technology and an integrated transmitter. It is compatible with Linear’s DXS and DX format receivers and PERS consoles, specifically for Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) applications. The device activates the PERS activity timer by sending a digitally coded wireless signal whenever it detects motion within its sensing range.
The advanced digital DXS code configuration includes over one million possible codes, pre-programmed at the factory for unique identification, eliminating the need for on-site coding. The DXS-54 transmits three types of signals: activity timer reset, low battery alert, and status update.
When installed in a PERS setup, the motion detector should be mounted indoors at a height between six and eight feet, ideally in a corner or on a suitable wall. It continuously monitors infrared levels within its detection zone and triggers the transmitter to reset the activity timer if abrupt changes indicate movement, thereby averting inactivity alarms.
This unit operates on a 9-Volt alkaline battery, offering up to three years of service life, subject to area traffic. A low battery condition is visually indicated by a flashing test indicator, and a low battery signal is transmitted to the PERS console upon motion detection.
The DXS-54 automatically sends a status transmission to the PERS console every hour, updating it on the transmitter’s condition. This hourly communication enables the PERS console to detect issues like low battery status or system removal.
In normal operation, the motion detector conserves battery power by limiting transmitter activation to once every four minutes. For configuration and testing, pressing the unit’s TEST button initiates a four-minute walk-test mode. During this time, installers can observe the red test indicator through the lens, defining the detection area accurately.
In walk-test mode, an activity timer reset signal is transmitted each time the indicator lights up. Under normal circumstances, the detector requires three movement events within eight seconds before sending a reset transmission for the activity timer.
